Dynamic positioning is a crucial technology that allows the vessel to maintain her position and heading in varying environmental conditions by using own propellers and thrusters.
Vessels with accurate sensors and powerful propulsion may achieve centimeters accuracy of positioning even under strong environments.
Navis is a leading expert in this field, with over 20 years of experience and a portfolio of more than 800 DP vessels operating worldwide.
Navis DP control systems are installed on a wide range of vessel types, from newbuilds to retrofits, including:
– Anchor handling vessels (AHV, AHTS)
– Platform supply vessels (PSV)
– Offshore supply vessels (OSV)
– Fast support interventional vessel (FSIV)
– Fast crew boats (FSV)
– Service operation vessels (SOV)
– Multicats
– Drilling vessels
– Jack-up vessels
– Pipelay vessels
– Cable layrepair vessels
– Trenching vessels
– Well stimulation vessels
– Rock placement vessels
– Dredging vessels
– Shuttle tankers
– FPSO
– Accommodation vessels
– Crane vessels
– Construction vessels
– ROV support vessels
– Diving support vessels
– Heavy lift vessels
– Tugs
– Ice breakers
– Motor super and mega yachts
– Ferries
– Cruise vessels
– Salvage and fire-fighting vessels
– Fishery vessels
– Research and survey vessels
– and others.
Focusing on reliability, quality, simplicity, customers’ needs and modern trends Navis offers competitive, cost effective and task-oriented solution for dynamic positioning applications.
We deliver Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 (class equal to MSC.1/Circ.1580), non-classified or customized DP control systems as well as comprehensive support starting from vessel design up to system commissioning and after sales service.
The DP5000 represents latest generation of Navis Dynamic Positioning Control System, combining the best qualities of the former series with the latest changes in technologies, requirements of classification societies and market trends.
DP 5000 non-class – Dynamic positioning control system applicable for vessels where DP class notation is not required. Consist of single DP control station with functionality equal to classified systems.
DP5000 Class 1 – Dynamic positioning control system complying with MSC.1/Circ.1580 and requirements of all classification society applicable for this type of equipment. Consists of DP and IJ Control stations.
DP5000 Class 2 – Dynamic positioning control system complying with MSC.1/Circ.1580 and requirements of all classification society applicable for this type of equipment. Consists of redundant DP control station and IJ Control station. Tolerant to single failure, vessel may keep position heading after single failure in any active component within the control system.
DP5000 Class 3 – Dynamic positioning control system complying with MSC.1/Circ.1580 and requirements of all classification society applicable for this type of equipment. Consists of redundant DP control station and IJ Control stations. Tolerant to single failure, vessel may keep position heading after single failure in any active component within the control system or fireflooding of one compartment.
DP5000 OEM – Dynamic positioning control system with open API giving opportunity to build it up in external products like Integrated Bridge System, vessel control system for remote or autonomous control. API available by request.
Overview of the DP5000 system
Advanced ergonomic workstation design
The DP5000 is the next generation Navis Dynamic Positioning System, combining the best of the legacy system, the Navis IVCS series, with the latest advances in technology and design, designed to meet the needs of experienced Dynamic Positioning System operators, recent changes in classification society requirements and market trends.
User interface design
The DP50000 user interface has been developed in close collaboration with dynamic positioning system operators and ergonomics experts. The priorities were simplicity, consistency, unambiguous presentation of information and quick access to all functions. The design of the new user interface does not use Windows system controls, instead it uses instrument-like controls.
A high-quality, marine-certified touch screen and next-generation control panel with a high-resolution color display and few control buttons provide a user-friendly and intuitive user interface.
Voice alert features for alarm messages help you maintain a high level of awareness in any situation.

System health monitoring
Power system monitoring and emergency shutdown prevention
The system constantly monitors its components (programmable logic controllers, computers, buses, etc.), sensors, propulsion system, generators and power networks in real time. Relevant information is also available to the operator in the form of text messages, or in the form of a simple and clear diagram displayed on the screen upon request.
The diagram uses different colors to display the state of the components and the relationships between them. In the event that a component or connection changes its state (i.e. becomes active or inactive or fails), the color of the rendered component also changes.
